ABSTRACT:
This study evaluated farm productivity and profitability ofTropical ManihotSelection(TMS)cassava varieties in Ebonyi State, Nigeria. One hundred and twenty respondentswere randomly selected from twelve villages using multi stage random sampling technique.Primary data for the study was collected using a well-structured questionnaire and interviewscheduled. Percentages responses, allocative efficiency model and gross margin analysis were usedto capture the specific objectives of the study. The results of the socioeconomic characteristicsshowed that majority of the respondents were females, youthful, married, educated, moderatehousehold size, well educated, experienced and had access to credit. The limiting factors toproduction of TMS cassava production in the study area were land problem, high cost of labour,high cost of fertilizer, theft and poor access to extension services. The result of the Gross Marginanalysis showed that the production of Tropical Manihot Selection cassava varieties was profitablein the study area with Gross margin of N994, 300, Farm Income; N988, 752 and Benefit Cost Ratioof 1: 3.7. There is need to make policies options in order to ensure farmers’ access to credit facility,educational programmes, labour saving devices and extension services.
