ABSTRACT:
This study analysed efficiency of resource use of groundnut production in Ussa Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria. The specific objectives were to identify the socio- economic characteristics of groundnut farmers, determine the resource use efficiency of groundnut production and identify the constraints to groundnut production in the study area. Data were collected through questionnaires administered to the respondents. The data collected were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. The descriptive statistics used were percentages and frequencies while the inferential statistics used were double-log regression analysis and efficiency ratio. The results of the study revealed that most of the respondents were aged 31-40 years (41.6%), 55.0% of the respondents were females and 76.6% of them were married, 90% were literates, 83.3% have household size of 3-14 and 46.6% had farming experience of 10-20 years. 75.0% were farming for both commercial and subsistence purposes, 46.6% of the respondents had farming as their major occupation, 80.0% financed their farm activities through personal savings and 70.0% had annual income of between N100, 000-N300,000. Profitability analysis revealed that N56,414.50 was obtained as total gross revenue, N17,465 was incurred as total variable cost and N38,949.50 as the gross margin per hectare. Therefore, the production of groundnut was revealed to be profitable.
